Some of them might help their hosts, while others might actively work against them. He was safe now, sleeping, not bothered by the horrible screams that followed.Īwakened share their body with another powerful soul. "Let go and let us help." He nodded, then there was darkness. Haven't we always been by your side, guiding and protecting you?" "Let go, just say the word and the pain will go away." Another hit, accompanied by the sound of something breaking. "You cannot sit here and take it, they might kill you." "Yes, let us help, we will make the bullies go away." The boy shook his head and soon after, the first punch connected. Let's teach him a lesson." A few other voices, the ones in his head, spoke up. The young boy cowered in a corner, his bullies towering over him. The distorted features of the man could be seen rising, his tears transforming into embers floating down from his visage. Fiery tentacles latched themselves onto the edge and something pulled itself upwards. Only seconds later, great heat emanated from the point where she just watched her love disappear. "No!" the girl screamed as she watched him disappear beneath the cliff's edge. It has to end now!" with tears in his eyes, he turned around and jumped. "I must, it is telling me to do things, terrible things. "Please, don't do this!" she cried out to the man standing atop a cliff. Now I just need to find a way to gain control over this vessel and refine the process for the next try.' 'Well, that is at least some sort of result. Then he realized, he was no longer in his own body, nor did he become an immortal being, like he hoped to become, but instead he was trapped in a young girl's body. He looked around, not familiar with his surroundings and his body began moving on its own accord. He remembered performing magical rituals, drinking an abominable potion, all in pursuit of immortality. With a wide smile, the man said in a ghostly, female voice: "I finally got you!"Ĭharantir the Archmage awoke with a terrible pain. The shimmering in the young man's eyes grew stronger and finally the elf was able to see it, see her inside. I killed her myself because she kept interfering with my jobs." "That may be however, Myralia knows." A name the elf had not heard in over one hundred years. The Human looked him deep into the eyes, something unnatural shimmering in them. how were you able to find me? There is no one alive that knows about this place." They are fantastic. With shackles tightened around his wrists, the elf assassin watched in disbelief as his captor, a young human, readied his horse for departure. They are weak so an army of them will still be terrible in combat but get creative. In short the sky is the limit with what you can do with them. How about a helm of telepathy? Bushes stationed around town casting detect though reading surface thoughts all over town by day then coming back to you at night to let you know all the town secrets. Those shrubs look much scarier with 19 str, 19 con, and a wand of magic missile or two. If you are playing a high level spy artificer you might also start making common and uncommon magic items for your shrubs since all creatures can attune to magic items. Provided you spend any costs and have the downtime I personally see no issue with teaching your intelligent shrubs new fun skills. If your DM allows there are downtime rules for learning skills and gaining proficiencies. On top of that they can do pretty much anything a normal sentient creature in D&D can do. They have an intelligence and wisdom of 10 which puts them on par with your average adult in D&D and can speak. Have them post up around well traveled establishments and come back if they hear anything juicy. The have False Appearance which makes them look exactly like a normal shrub while they stand still. While they don't do much on their own and are weak in combat they make perfect spies. When I played a Spy(Artificer) I had a number of awakened shrubs.
